A variety of litz wires

High-frequency litz wires are made of twisted enameled strands in order to reduce eddy current losses, the so-called skin effect.

Solderable conductors are normally used in high-frequency litz wires. Other enamels are possible, especially for higher temperature (up to temperature class 240) applications. The bunched strands can be covered with several layers of polyamide (Nylon) yarn, polyester PET or PEN film, aramid paper, polyimide film and they could even be co-extruded with PVC, XLPE, PUR, silicone or other materials.

On order to achieve a better filling factor the high-frequency litz wires can be pressed to a rectangular or trapezoidal (keystone) shape.

Litz Wire

          

The high flexibility of round litz wires offers significant advantages in the production process of small transformers and low-voltage rotating machines and can improve the efficiency of the machine. The litz wires are normally insulated with polyester, polyimide, mica or aramid tapes, depending on the application.

The single strands are mostly bare copper wires, but they can also be enameled or subjected to special surface treatment (SST).

  • Single strand: 0.40 mm, 0.50 mm  or 1.00 mm

Litz Wire

The high flexibility of litz wires results in significant savings in the production process of rotating machines and can also improve the efficiency of the machine. Litz wires used in rotating machines are normally pressed to a rectangular profile in order to increase the copper filling factor.

Covered rectangular litz wires are insulated with Samicafilm®, Samicapor®, aramid tapes, polyester or polyimide tapes, depending on the application. The single strands are mostly bare copper wires, but they can also be enamelled or subjected to special surface treatments.

Special round and rectangular litz wires
Special surface-treated (SST) round or rectangular litz wires have a very thin electroplated coating on the surface. This makes it possible to reduce eddy current and proximity effect losses while still achieving a high filling factor. Connections can also be easily done.
