Von Roll, one of Switzerland's longest established industrial companies, has qualified to be one of the main suppliers of high-performance transformers to Hydro One Networks Inc., Toronto, Canada. The cooperation will span the next five years and will include a contract volume of at least USD 16.6 million.

Hydro One delivers electricity safely, reliably and responsibly to homes and businesses across Ontario and owns and operates Ontario's 29,000 kilometre high-voltage transmission network that delivers electricity to large industrial customers and municipal utilities. Moreover, Hydro One owns and operates a 122,000 kilometre low-voltage distribution system that serves about 1.3 million end-use customers and smaller municipal utilities in the province. Hydro One is wholly-owned by the Province of Ontario.

The value-added chain and expertise of the Swiss industrial group were therefore decisively expanded to include one of the most promising and rapidly growing markets. Growth on the transformer market is driven by strong demand to upgrade and replace antiquated infrastructure, the push for greater efficiency on Western markets, and the need for new infrastructure in emerging markets.
