Cable Industry
Electrical machines and installations must ensure maximum safety under harsh conditions such as fire.

Safety requirements in the modern world have increased significantly. Electrical appliances and installations need to function reliably even in the most challenging environments, such as fire. An oil platform is an artificial environment that relies entirely on electricity at all times. Electrical integrity must be assured whenever a fire, even the smallest one, occurs; otherwise lives, materials, and environment are at risk.

With this in mind, Von Roll has developed a range of products that remain at the forefront of fire- resistant cable technology.

Cablosam® mica-based tapes keep vital electrical installations operational: safety equipment such as smoke detectors, fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, water pumps, and evacuation elevators that need to keep functioning for many hours during a fire.

The naturally occurring mineral mica, which has excellent insulating properties and a melting point up to 1300°C, is responsible for the outstanding fire resistance of our tapes. Cablosam® tapes consist of either a phlogopite or muscovite mica paper, manufactured in a special process developed by Von Roll. The mica paper is impregnated with silicone resin and bonded to a suitable reinforcing carrier. Cablosam® tapes enable cable manufacturers to meet all relevant national and international fire test standards, including EN 50200, IEC 60331, and BS6387.

So as to meet the demands of state-of-the-art high-speed processing equipment, Von Roll has developed tapes that are highly flexible and a joint-free tape concept. This means that very long continuous lengths of tape can be produced on traverse-wound spools at widths down to 4 mm. Pre-taped conductors can also be offered to customers without in-house taping facilities.

In our brochure about Cablosam® Tapes for Fire Resistant Cables you will find more information on this topic.
